UYI “proper” recording dates + Izzy’s participation? Empty UYI “proper” recording dates + Izzy’s participation?

Hey,

Are there any “proper” dates for the recording of the UYI albums? Meaning when sessions officially began and officially ended?

Also, it is noticed that Izzy does not feature at all on quite a few songs. Is this because he just didn’t bother showing up to the recording sessions?

I remember Slash saying he had to double up for Izzy because he only recorded bare bones parts. Other things I’ve seen indicate he showed up for basic recording, but then never returned for further sessions and mixing?

Would love some clarity on this

It’s especially curious that Izzy does not feature on Civil War, considering that song was tracked in the spring of 1990 and features literally the entire AFD lineup + Dizzy Reed, but not Izzy

For all that I have read through the years, it is pretty clear to me that:

- Izzy has recorded his parts for all songs. Yes, apparently he did that for about a month with everyone (Slash, Matt and Duff) and just went away.

- The recording was "done" by then and only needed final touches like guitar solos, overdubs and vocals.

- Slash and Axl spent months (a year?) doing that.

- Some of Izzy's parts were definitely re-recorded by Slash. Slash then removed Izzy's parts from several songs and added his re-recorded parts. Slash did this when Izzy wasn't around. The Izzy parts that remained on the album are also lower inn the mix. Izzy had no idea that Slash had done that until he listened to the album and couldn't hear his own guitar.

- When Slash says that "Izzy only recorded bare bones parts" this is basically Slash trying to get away with what he did. It's basically him saying "I was forced" to re-record Izzy's parts.

- There is no reason to believe that Izzy's parts were any worse or any different than what he recorded for Live Like a Suicide, Appetite for Destruction and GN'R Lies -- which is brilliant, warm, rocking rhythm guitar playing.
