The Workout Thread Empty The Workout Thread

Post by Soulmonster Fri Aug 19, 2011 10:11 pm

The only exercise I get nowadays is biking to work. But it is about 12 km and with 200 meters elevation so it is actually great exercise. Especially during winter with all the snow and ice. And I try to go on hiking every weekend, usually just in the nearby forests but occasionally on real mountain trips involving lots of scrambling.

I should probably do some work-out for my upper body, though, but I am too lazy to build muscle.

No sir...

I used to do some MMA fighting before it was called MMA ...that's where most of the injuries come from but not all...there's a few car accidents and just general "getting old"

And still people have no respect of wrestlers Smile

I feel the age, too, at 35. I used to think there would be a specific age where you just got old, but now I have realized that it is a creeping thing, and the first signs came around the 30 year mark. It gets harder and harder to stay more or less fit, and the amount of energy that you have to spend each day seems smaller and smaller. Laying on the couch after dinner is so tempting, doing some work after dinner is almost impossible.

I have a few years on you...

I really have no time to work out...i wake up at 6am, commute to work, work for 10 hours, commute home, shower, unwind, cook and eat dinner..then it's time to go to sleep already...

I am lucky being able to bike to work and get some exercise that way, because like you I find it hard to take time for exercising. Actually, right now it is pretty impossible. When I come home after work I spend time with my daughter, and when she is in bed I spend time with my wife. Exercising would mean less time with one of them, and that wouldn't be popular.

The only sign of getting old is that I find it more difficult to maintain my weight. Otherwise at 35 I feel as young as 25 lol.

That's an impressive list. Mine is much shorter. Just a broken wrist (2 operations), dislocated elbow, a broken collar bone & two concussions.
I hope you recovered from your last injuries.

My last injury was a broken wrist, broken hand, sprained shoulder, sprained knee and concussion as a result of being struck by a car.

Overall, I'm not doing bad considering all of these injuries and surgeries I've had. The back always kinda hurts but I can deal with it, for the most part. The amount of concussions I've had though is troubling and I feel the effects of them more than anything and I often worry if it will lead to Alzheimer's disease.

I haven't read much about the consequences of having multiple concussions but Alzheimer doesn't sound too good. Are there any preventions that can be taken?

I have never heard trauma to the head increases the chance of Alzheimer's, although you can risk other types of brain injury The Workout Thread 606985973.

Concussions also cause depression and I've suffered with depression for the last 10 years sometimes to a debilitating point.

I've had post concussion syndrome as well. I once suffered with post concussion syndrome for over 3 years. I've had significant memory loss and my ability to retain new knowledge has been hampered.

Oh, that's awful. I am sorry to hear that. I guess only drugs may help in such cases when you are suffering at your age. It's probably not a question about beating the disease, but making it less of a problem. I have depression in my new extended family, as well, and it's a fucking bitch.

Luckily I got away with depressions though I'm a bit low at times but I guess all ppl are like this more or less.
I asked the doctor specifically about the ability to retain knowledge and he said I was just stupid and it was not connected with the concussions hahahaha
I think that homeopathy, which is IMO (at least classic homeopathy) in no way as innocent as most ppl think, brought the consequences of my concussions (and of course other things I've suppressed for yrs) to the surface mainly in the form of awful headaches.
